Three Years Ago Today

Three years ago today, I got my cancer diagnosis.  I still struggle with the mental aspect of it at times.  I get overwhelmed whenever I go to the oncologist office, even though I've had scans and gotten the results before the appointments. I hate going there, seeing the others who've had it so much worse than I did.

I managed treatment very well, just having enough nausea to stay medicated on the daily for it, but never getting violently ill, and having my sense of taste drastically change until the chemo was out of my system. My hair didn't fall out, I didn't lose weight. My radiation didn't blister my skin, although my skin did turn red and peel.  The surgery was the most uncomfortable part of it, as well as the infection I experienced with the installation of my port, but it was all manageable.

Living through a cancer diagnosis and treatment is something I'm thankful for every day.
